I recently got laid off and am currently unemployed. Can a career support group help me?
Yes – a career exploration group can be beneficial to you in many ways. First of all, when faced with difficult economic and financial situations, we can all use emotional support from others in similar circumstances. Also, the social support that you give and receive will help you exchange valuable information about job searching. Furthermore, support groups are designed to help you gain information about what kinds of career paths work best for you and your family. All of this can lead to an increased level of self-confidence, which is then reflected in your interactions with others, including potential future employers.

I’ve been unhappy with my job for a while now. I have already tried
working with a recruiter and I still feel stuck. How is your service any
different?

A recruiter’s job is to find you a job that you might dislike less. For example, if you dislike your current office, a recruiter can help you find another office where you can do similar work with different people, or in a different location. But what if you don’t like the actual work you are doing? My goal is to help you get to know yourself better, so you can figure out what you are looking for in your career and your life. It may be that you are looking in all the wrong places! I can help you feel less stuck.

What about career coaches? How are you different from them?
I am a licensed psychologist who has the training to offer career and psychological services. Of course, career coaches can be helpful in keeping you focused and motivated. But I can provide more comprehensive services that allow you to examine all factors that are affecting your current career path and your life, not just the obvious ones.

I don’t want everyone knowing about my concerns and doubts about
my current job. How can I feel safe coming to talk to you about personal
things?

As a licensed psychologist, I follow strict confidentiality standards. I do not release any information pertaining to your visit with Career Fulfillment Services without your written consent, except in rare situations where safety concern is involved, such as:

  • If you are at imminent risk of harming yourself or others
  • If you disclose of a situation that involves an abuse of children, the elderly, or disabled individuals

In addition, when ordered by the court, your records may be disclosed as
evidence. Again, these are rare situations, and when appropriate, we will
make an effort to talk with you before disclosing confidential information.

What about fees? How much does counseling cost?
In general, Career Counseling Package is $500/person and individual counseling sessions are $125/hour. Services are provided on a sliding fee schedule, which means that the fees may be adjusted, depending on your circumstance. Your fee will be discussed in the first complimentary 30-minute session. I also accept a number of health insurance plans. Please contact me directly to obtain the most up-to-date information.
